Improve Your Rooftop Patio With A Retractable Awning

There are so many ways to improve your rooftop patio. You can add a few little details or entirely transform the space. Adding a retractable awning will make any other improvements you choose even better. Your patio can become an extension of your indoor space or a completely different room.

A retractable awning improves livability.
Shade is irresistibly inviting when it’s hot. An awning allows people and pets to get fresh air without leaving home. It can make your patio as much as 20 degrees cooler.

A retractable awning is sturdier than an umbrella, and it can cover far more area. You can shade a table and chairs for eating, or any size seating area with chairs, tables, benches, even a sofa.

A retractable awning is convertible. Use it only when you want, quickly switching from sun to shade for coverage all day long or just during the hottest part of the day, opening it all the way or just part-way. Retract it to get an unobstructed view of the city lights or starry skies at night. Open it to continue enjoying your patio if it starts to rain. Add an enclosed outdoor firepot for extra coziness at night or when the weather turns chilly.

A retractable awning reduces glare as well as heat. It shades indoor rooms, too, saving energy on air conditioning and protecting furniture, carpet, etc. from sun damage just as it does your outdoor furniture. Wood and upholstery can fade or deteriorate when exposed to ultraviolet light.

You can improve your patio with any look you want — a traditional slanted awning style or flat “rooftop” look, or even a rounded top. Your awning can be a single “sheet” of fabric that rolls up, or a “roman shade” style that folds. There are enough fabric and color options to delight even the pickiest designer.

Create a sun-safe play area for kids or grandkids.
Spending time in the sun feels great. But we all know that the sun’s UV rays can be dangerous. They can damage your skin and even cause cancer, which is why the American Cancer Society actively promotes shade for children’s play areas. A retractable awning can virtually eliminate UV risk, so kids can play where you can keep an eye on them without having to hike or drive to the nearest park.

Create a rooftop garden.
Whether you choose an elegant setting with just a few carefully-placed plants or lushly green and floral surroundings, a rooftop garden is a beautiful and unexpected improvement. Plants soften the hard surfaces of high-rise buildings and streets and eco-friendly, too, especially in nature-starved urban settings.

A retractable awning provides shade part of the day so your garden doesn’t just roast up there on the roof. And you don’t need much space to create a gorgeous garden.

Why not go for some grass? Just the sight of it makes us feel cooler. Plant a small section of turf in a shallow container and voilà – instant lawn you can mow with a scissor in less than five minutes. Add potted flowers or even a small tree. Use tough sun-lovers like lavender or shade-loving seasonals like gardenias to add fragrance to your garden. You might even attract butterflies or hummingbirds.

Arrange plants to define a rooms on your patio, even if it’s just a reading corner with a comfy chair and footrest. Plants can literally help keep you cool and make your patio feel more refreshing.

You can’t control the weather, but with a retractable awning you don’t have to let it keep you from enjoying your rooftop patio. A retractable awning is versatile and easy to use. It’s the best place to start when you want to improve your patio.
